Central Connecticut would tie Syracuse on four separate occasions in the first half and take the lead five different times.
The Blue Devils were able to gain the advantage numerous times predominantly because of the superior shooting from beyond the arc by their sophomore guard Kyle Vinales, who made four of his eight attempts from long range.
But, the Orange turned on from distance as well, going 7-for-12 in the first half. Sophomore guard Michael Carter-Williams' three at 6:52 gave Syracuse the lead back, 23-21.
They would never relinquish the lead again, going up 47-26 at the half.
Carter-Williams led the Orange with 18 points.
He also got back to his prowess in the assist category with 13 helpers in the game. Carter-Williams had seven in the first half alone.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim ties Bobby Knight at 902 career wins as a result of the team's 96-62 win.
