The University of Louisville women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a 95-48 victory over Portland on Sunday at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals had five players score in double figures.

After grinding out a win over No. 15 Texas A&M on Friday night, the University of Louisville women's basketball team coasted on Sunday afternoon.

Five players scored in double figures, while all 13 players on the roster scored at least two points as the Cardinals steamrolled Portland 95-48 before 6,423 fans at the KFC Yum! Center.

Shoni Schimmel led the Cardinals with 16 points and four assists in 22 minutes, while Bria Smith had 15 points and six steals.

Sheronne Vails tacked on 13 points, three rebounds and two assists, while freshman Megan Deines had 12 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals and Shawnta' Dyer pitched in 10 points.

"It's great," U of L coach Jeff Walz said. "The first game was just a grind. I wasn't sure we couldn't score 50 in a season. But we do have people who can score.

"We're going to have some games that we're going to have to grind it out and some games – like we showed today – where we put some points on the board."

U of L finished 35 of 73 from the field, while hitting 19 of 22 free throws. The Cardinals won the rebounding battle 40-29, forced 32 turnovers and had 20 steals, 15 assists and just 13 turnovers.

"We had some people who did a nice job," Walz said. "Our goal before the game was under 15 turnovers and we had 10 at halftime."

The No. 9 Cardinals will now hit the road for five games beginning with a contest on Thursday night at Austin Peay.
